Mr Union is a beautiful café on the corner of St Leonards and Union Road in Ascot Vale.
The interiors have been recently renovated to create a warm and welcoming dining area. With bright paintings and light filled spaces, Mr Union is a lovely place to dine.
They are open thoughout the day serving up awesome breakfast, dinner and all the meals you need in between.
Their brunch options cover all the usual essentials like the eggs benny and scrambled eggs, but all with a special unique twist in flavor. Definitely something that I would come back to try out.
Dinners here are predominately created with their signature Spanish Mirabasa Oven which is unique to Mr Union. The Mibrasa is a charcoal based oven that is ideal for cooking meats to maximize flavor as it seals the meat in its own juices.
Our favourite was their Pork Hock! Its definitely a dish that’s amazing to both the eyes and tastes. Served up as a massive bone surrounded by tender juicy meat. It is definitely a must try there.
Delicious assortment of dips and beautifully presented too! Loved the sweet potato best but everything was delicious. 8/10
Unusual to see calamari presented like this, but the flavour and texture was great. Couldn’t believe how nice and tender it was. Loved the refreshing asian flavoured salad too. 8/10
Delicious quail with a unique aroma from the mibrasa oven. Great for nibbling on. 7.5/10
Tender lamb that was cooked almost well done, but still tender. Loved the sweet zing of the pomegranate to the salad. Pumpkin seeds gave it a great crunch! 8.5/10
Tender chicken that was perfectly cooked with a nice crispy skin. The mibrasa really added a unique flavour to the chicken that was deliciously unique. The hummus and carrots made it a really healthy option too. 8/10
One of the most epic pork dishes ever! The flavor that the mirabasa oven was amazing and definitely unique. The meat was tender and falls straight apart from the giant bone. So flavoursome by itself, but even better with the horseradish and mustard. The beetroot horseradish was a favourite too! Sweet with just the right amount of nose-clearing horseradish hit. Would definitely recommend!
Awesome dessert! The dumplings were super light and fluffy, reminded me a bit of Japanese Hokkaido cheesecake. It wasn’t overly sweet, which I liked and the vanilla sour cream went perfectly with it! Would definitely recommend this unique dish! 9/10
